Movie Info

  • Hunter Killer After an American submarine vanishes, while shadowing a Russian sub in the Arctic, Rear Admiral John Fisk sends another U.S. submarine, the USS Arkansas, under the command of newly-promoted and unconventional Commander Joe Glass to investigate what happened. At the same time, a Navy SEAL team under the command of Lieutenant Bill Beaman is sent in to discreetly observe a Russian naval base, but their mission is swiftly complicated when Martinelli, one of their number, is rendered unconscious during the parachute drop after getting caught in a storm cloud. When they arrive at the naval base, they witness defense minister Admiral Dmitri Durov take Russian President Zakarin prisoner, and swiftly realize that he intends to trigger a war. Meanwhile, the Arkansas discovers the lost American sub but also finds a sunken Russian submarine, damaged in a manner that suggests internal sabotage rather than external attack. They are attacked by another Russian submarine that has been watching events while hidden under an iceberg, but Glass is able to destroy the new sub and rescue survivors from the original wreck, including submarine Captain Sergei Andropov. Back at base, the American government learns what is happening. Admiral Charles Donnegan recommends preparing for war, while Fisk suggests that the Arkansas be sent into rendezvous with Beaman's team after they have rescued Zakarin. With Andropov's knowledge of the base's defenses, Glass is able to take the Arkansas into the base undetected. Beaman loses two of his team and subsequently goes back for Martinelli, having been forced to leave the man behind due to prior injuries while retrieving Zakarin. As American and Russian fleets prepare for battle, the Arkansas sustains further damage when they are attacked by Andropov's old ship – now commanded by Sutrev, a member of Durov's conspiracy – but Andropov is able to transmit a message affirming that Zakarin is aboard the submarine. When Durov orders his forces at the base to fire, Glass refuses to take action, recognizing that firing back at the Russians could start the war he is trying to stop, but Andropov's old ship destroys the missiles before they can strike Arkansas, and subsequently destroy the headquarters of the naval base itself. Glass returns to the base to return Zakarin and Andropov's crew to their country, with Glass and Andropov confirming their respect for each other.

Movie Story

I have a family secret to share. Sue’s sister Deb is a huge fan of bad movies, the dumber the better. She will love this one. HUNTER: KILLER, by the way, horrible title, is laughably bad but still rousingly entertaining. The action is so fast-paced that you don’t even notice. B.
